The best coves (calanques) in Marseille, France

Let's start with the most famous one.

Sugiton's cove has suffered from its frequentation and must now be booked in advance at http://www.calanques-parcnational.fr/en/news/reserve-preserve-sugiton-reservations.

Just next to Sugiton is Morgiou's Cove. You can even access it by walking from Sugiton by following the path.

Whether you visit Morgiou or Sugiton, you can park at Luminy's car park, and then follow the path to the cove. It'll take a little less than one hour to walk from the car park to Morgiou.

Another option is to park at the Baumettes' parking, and then follow by walk the path to Morgiou. It'll take you about an hour to get to the cove from there.

This is our favorite! You need to do a good 2 hours walk to get there, but it's worth it!

Beware, from June to September, the "col de la Gardiole" cannot be accessed by car, you have to park at the Joli-Bois car park and then walk to the cove, by taking the road that leads to le col de la Gardiole. The car park is just at the crossroads of the route du col de la Gineste and Gaston Rebuffat.

It will take you from Joli-Bois about 2 hours to go to the cove walking, and the same time to get back.

If you can park at the Col de la Gardiole, it'll be 30 minutes faster.

Just follow the signs to En-Vau and you should get there. At one point you can take the path on the left if you want to go the Belvedere. Otherwise, go straight and you'll get to this fantastic beach.

This cove is very famous, but as it is less accessible than others, it is still possible to find a place on the beach. Once you get there you can enjoy a well-deserved swim.

This lovely cove is the most accessible one, as the car park (4,50€) is just next to the beach.

If the car park is closed, you can access it by parking at the Baumettes', and then take a 50 minutes walk to the beach.

Port-Miou is the only cove that is located in Cassis.

Surrounded by high hills and long of 1400 meters, it has in part been shaped by men as it was some time ago used as a stone quarry.

You can access the car park (paid) by driving through Cassis. If it is full it is always possible to find a place and park in the streets nearby (paid). 

Once you get to the cove, you can take the "sentier des douaniers" that goes around, and go down to the small beach just next to the harbor.

You can also take the path from here to Port-Pin's cove.

Located just next to Port-Miou, you will find a small beach surrounded by pines (hence its name, Pin means Pine).

To access it, go to Port-Miou's parking, then follow the path along the old quarries.

It will take you about 30 minutes to get there on a walk.
